Trailer Music

Our initial choice of music was Jake Bugg's 'Two Fingers', which we felt the lyrics and the sound of the song fitted in with our trailer perfectly. However, we were unable to obtain permission to use it in our trailer, therefore we were unable to use it.

For the first part of our trailer, before the montage, we wanted a simple guitar sequence which would be unobtrusive for the viewer allowing them to concentrate on Archie's narration but still provide a mood for our trailer. We were able to have Jamie Weekes, who also composed music for our film opening last year, also compose a guitar sequence for the opening of our trailer which gives the trailer an upbeat and coming-of-age film feel.

Not being able to use 'Two Fingers' for the montage in our trailer meant that we had to look elsewhere. I knew of a singer called Noah Kittinger, who is not widely known and I thought that his music, specifically the song 'Nostalgic Feel', had the perfect feel that would fit in with our trailer.
I was able to get permission from the singer directly which meant that we could use it for our trailer!

Production Company

Production Company Name: Cosmic Pictures

Initial logo drafts:

We decided to choose 'Cosmic Pictures' as it combines the initials of the first names of the people in our group, C, O and S.

This is the production company screen clip we used at the beginning of our trailer:

Initial Locations: Google Maps

We decided to use The Vine in Sevenoaks to shoot some of the scenes for our trailer. Some of these shots will include exterior shots of our main character, Archie by himself, as well as with his friends.

We also want to shoot some exterior shots of a bench near Hollybush park in Sevenoaks, which will include Archie and his friends hanging out.

There will be an exterior shot taken outside of Hugh Christie in Tonbridge of our main character running down an alley.

We plan to shoot the majority of our interior shots here as it is a convenient location, in the area where most of our exterior shots are taking place.

We are planning to film the exterior shot of Jordana crying outside of the church at St Stephens Church in Tonbridge, as it is located very near where we are planning to film our interior shots.

Film Shot Inspiration

Requiem for a Dream (2000)

This shot inspired us for our trailer as we envisioned the a similar shot of the four main characters
of our film lying in this position and we could possibly use this as our film poster as the composition would be perfect for a film poster. This shot also has a kind surreal element to it, with one character looking unfocussed at the camera and the other with his eyes closed, the lighting also adds to this slightly surreal effect.
Lady Vengeance (2005)

The simplicity of this shot appealed to us, as on our mood board for our film we had a photo of a similar flooring style from one of the locations we plan to use for our trailer. The use of the high angle looking down on the character in such a vast empty space creates a sense of isolation, as well as the natural lighting which throws long shadows, we felt that the composition of this shots encapsulated our trailer as we wanted to portray our main character as slightly isolated and the location in this shot also applies to our trailer.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

In this shot we loved the use of the contrasting lighting, as we felt that in our previous project of a film opening we didn't use lighting techniques or experiment with how to use it. So we liked the contrast of the blue lighting in the background and the softer more yellow lighting in the foreground. As well as this, the positioning of Nicole Kidman in the door frame also makes this shot interesting.

Research and Planning

Real Media Conventions

For AS we did significant research into the codes and conventions of horror films, which included conventions of sound, stereotypes of characters, location/settings and props.

www -
  • We did significant research into the codes and conventions of horror
  • we were able to draw inspiration from them and it made us think of ways we could make our film opening different
ebi -

  • We could have referred back to them more when creating our storyboard and actually filming, to see where we could support or subvert them
  • we struggled in our evaluation to say which stereotypes we had either supported or subverted
For A2 -

For A2 it will be more useful to refer back to these conventions throughout the process of creating our storyboard and filming. This will help us to apply more of these conventions to our film and think of ways to support of subvert them.

Post-Production

iMovie

  • editing - we spent a lot of time editing and refining our film opening however, it would have been nice to maybe experiment more with different tools, e.g. in iMovie as well as make some cuts between some shots even finer.
  • www - significant amount of time spent editing it
  • ebi - still room for more improvement,as we could have looked at different editing software's e.g. final cut pro.

Reflection on AS

PRELIMINARY TASK:

www - For the preliminary task, I think that it was a good first attempt at using the camera and going through the process of drafting, creating and planning. Although there are obvious areas for improvement, our match-on-action was cut well and we managed to complete what was required for the task.

ebi - In our preliminary task we didn't really plan at all, although we produced a storyboard, we didn't plan for example, who the pother person in the conversation would be. Our camerawork could also have been improved on, although this was due to lack of experience using the school cameras.

A2:

For A2 it will be useful to compare our final product with our preliminary task, as well as our final film opening. This will enable us as a group to see which areas each of us could improve on and which skills we could develop, in order to gain more experience with specific things such as technology.
